iPhone 5S and 5C launch live: Apple fans count down to release of new iPhone models
6:40 pm
Your next iPhone will be as fast as a computer. The iPhone 5S has a brand new chip called the A7, which makes it two times as fast as the iPhone 5.
Apple
said: “The iPhone 5S is a huge leap forward in mobile computing
performance. It starts with a brand new system on a chip called the A7.
A7 is 64-bit, the world’s first and only such CPU in a smartphone.”

6:25 pm
Another interesting new feature on the iPhone5S is a
chip called the M7. It's a motion processor, which continuously measures
motion data, accelerometer, and gestural data.
Apple
have been working with Nike to test this, building an app that counts
your stride and movements throughout the day. It can determine whether
you’re walking or driving.
Apple sees this opening a “whole new generation of health and fitness applications”.
6:08 pm
Mike: "Filming a slot for an episode of Dara O'briain's School of
Hard Sums - stay tuned, we will let you all know when it launches :)"
6:01 pm
Has the council come back to tell you to take down your tent?
Mike: "Nah they haven't come back but if they do it's not coming down. I don't really care what they say lol - So we shall see. Going on a shop run soon to get some liquids so thirsty lol."
5:50 pm
Can't
believe the built in protection on iOS7! You can drop your iPhone,
throw it at a wall, run it over with a truck, whatever - it's fine!

Ethan: "The front of the queue has reached maximum capacity. The second queue on Hanover Street is growing rapidly!"
5:32 pm
The battery life of the iPhone 5S is “even better than that of the iPhone 5," according to Apple.
It survives 10 hours of constant Wi-Fi browsing, and a whopping 250 hours on standby.
5:10 pm
Mike: "Feeling stupidly stressed. Pouring with rain we couldn't care
less what the council say THE FORTRESS LIVES ON, Now in the dry and
trying to relax!"

Inside the fortress
4:58 pm
Sorry for the delay. We've been extremely busy trying to get our fort back up. It is now 100% functional!
4:52 pm
Apple have made serious upgrades on the iPhone 5S's camera. The flash now has two LEDs — one white, and one amber.
This
means it analyses the lighting in the room, adjusting the color of the
flash accordingly. Your photos should be of the highest quality, no
matter what the light.
4:50 pm
4:46 pm
4:42 pm
4:31 pm
What are you going to buy tomorrow morning Ethan?
"Two iPhone
5S 64GBs. Definitely going for gold; it'd be nice to have a change. I
queue every year. I love the banter, the atmosphere, the people...it's
just a great laugh."
4:28 pm
Another brand new feature on the iPhone5s is a fingerprint sensor called the Touch ID.
The
Touch ID fingerprint sensor is located on the home button, reading your
fingerprint as a more secure way to protect your phone.
4:01 pm
As the countdown to the iphone5s going on sale continues to tick
down, we take another look at some of the new features users will enjoy.
The
rumours about the iPhone 5S were spot on, with the handset available to
buy in a subtle gold shade, alongside the usual slate-grey and white.
Apple say: “This is our most forward thinking phone yet. It’s available in silver, gold, and space grey.”
3:47 pm
We're not waiting anymore. Our geek shack is going up
3:18 pm
Someone answered our prayers. Delivery from Subway has gone down nicely. EPIC!
3:08 pm
Doing our bit to help out the community - this homeless guy was over the moon and very grateful - we do try!
2:58 pm
Feeling hungry grabbing a Maccers...
2:56 pm
Our clothes are damp but our spirits are high. Apparently we aren't
allowed to construct the greenhouses yet. We feel like being a bit
rebellious...
1:28 pm
Rich London PR have just came down to pay us a visit.
They've kindly outfitted us with some pretty fresh gear. Much appreciated, guys!
1:26 pm
This is Ethan Martin - next in line in the queue after Mike and Noah.
I'm a 22-year-old marketing assistant from Oxford. I'm a huge tech fan - not just Apple products, but tech as a whole.
So the rain has started and we've been forced to create a temporary shelter using the roof of our greenhouse.
Not exactly convenient but it will do!
1:15 pm
Although there are more people, it's not at all aggressive.
If I
was to give any advice, I would say come with a group. When I started
this I did it on my own and it was drag as I didn't know anyone, but now
we are all good mates it's great.
There is so much banter and the time goes by fast.
12:51 pm
Yeah the queue is getting bigger and now it has snaked around the corner and gone down Hanover street.
Today will see a huge influx of queuers as we build up for tomorrow morning's launch.
12:41 pm
Huge props to Alibi for dropping off their two new flavour of drink for us to try out!
I was getting really thirsty as well. Huge props to Alibi for dropping off their two new flavours for us to try out! I was getting really thirsty as well
12:39 pm
Me and fellow queuer Ethan under the cover trying to stay dry!
12:32 pm
I've taken time off work to be here, and Noah's missing some college. My boss is very understanding!
12:31 pm
It's starting to rain. So as we aren't allowed our fortress we have
comprised by putting the cover over us and our belongings and using
umbrellas kindly supplied by Apple to keep us dry!
12:25 pm
I've queued at every device since the iPhone 4 including the iPads.
We've always agreed we would start queuing four or five days early.
One of us normally takes one for the team and starts queuing to secure our place.
This year it was Noah's turn haha.
12:05 pm
I've had offers of up to £7,000 this year, but unless I see the money in my account I'm not getting my hopes up.
12:02 pm
There's two ways of doing it once we well our spots.
1. Transaction happens and Noah leaves the queue and joins the end.
2.
Transaction happens and Noah stays in the queue in first place. He goes
into the store, buys the iPhones and then gives the guy his iPhone when
he comes out.
If I sell my spot the money would go into savings as I'm trying to buy a house - it will be nice added extra on the deposit.
I once sold my space for £3,000 back in the day, but I can't remember what launch it was.
11:55 am
At the moment we know we are coming up to the home straight, so spirits are high as everyone is showered and feeling fresh.
Loads more people are interviewing us from the media.
We've had people come and offer to buy our places but so far they are only offers rather than actual cash.
Someone is talking to Noah right now and offered him £5,000!
11:53 am
One of the campers Billy is getting himself a replacement iPhone 5 in preparation to sell it as new when he gets the 5S. Cheeky!
11:30 am
Some confusion about the number of iPhones available per customer.
One
Apple worker said that when purchasing tomorrow there is a limit of two
iPhone 5S's per person, but for the iPhone 5C it is 10 per person.
But then another staff member just said two of each.
They don't know for sure as they've never launched two phones at the same time before!
11:29 am
I love iOS 7 it is so sick!
I started the download at six last night when it dropped. It took me 12 attempts to get it as it always came up with an error message - Apple's servers got slammed hard!
I absolutely love it so fresh and clean.
11:26 am
Got to love fellow queuer Harry - so sophisticated with his book and flat cap! Got to love fellow queuer Harry - so sophisticated with his book and flat cap!
11:23 am
Always gets bare cold when the sun goes behind a cloud - feeling chilly.
11:23 am
Of course I am going for for gold iPhone 5S.
In my opinion, the 5C is exactly the same as the 5 apart from the colours.
11:18 am
I'm pretty excited for the fingerprint scanner - I reckon the whole
NSA thing about Apple keeping a record of our DNA are just stupid
conspiracy theories.
The double speed with the A7 processor chip
will be a lovely touch, and I'm defiantly going to be doing a lot of slo
mo shooting on the new camera!
11:13 am
Mike is planning on buying the 32GB iPhone 5S.
I'm not here for the 5C, as I already have the 5.
11:06 am
The sun is out, it's lovely and warm, munching on left over Dominos from last night! #iphone5squeue
11:03 am
It's great queueing outside Apple - they have our needs in their best interest.
Yesterday the manager of the store woke me up with a lovely latte from Starbucks.
All of the staff are really great and do their best to help where they can.
11:00 am
A little bit more about me, Noah.
I'm 17, and currently living at home in Stanmore which is in north west London.
I
am enrolled as a full time student on a business B-Tech course as this
is more practical for me, and gives me flexibility to advance with my
business which will be launching in the upcoming year.
10:32 am
Just having a lovely full English.
10:25 am
Westminster Council are now putting up a queue system in front of the store so the streets are not blocked.
A spokesperson said:“The streets of Westminster are not camp sites and we can’t allow people to block the streets days in advance.
"From today, a queueing system with barriers will be in place for anyone wishing to queue for the new iPhone."
10:24 am
We're going to grab some food - back soon!
Here's one of our best life hacks: Turn on airplane mode when charging your device - it charges at double speed!
10:22 am
The only thing I have to say to that is they need our house! Haha!
Seriously though I probably would have just gone home. Forget queueing in that weather for an inanimate object!
10:20 am
A bit more about me, Mike Roberts.
I live in a town called Molesey which is pretty much Hampton Court, but no one has heard of Molesey so I just say Hampton Court.
I'm a lettings negotiator for Rawlinson and Webber, the best agent in Hampton Court!
10:15 am
The fortress is down, we've cleared up, now to chill!
10:11 am
Mike here: Apple asked kindly if we could take the frame down as well.
Apple have been awesome throughout this and previous launch, they are very friendly, and make sure we are all okay.
We've got umbrellas and stuff so it could be worse!
10:10 am
As I have been here since Monday I have had various encounters with
the Westminster City Council and the agency that represent the Landlords
of the Regent Street area.
My first encounter was on Tuesday at
6:00 am when a man representing the landlords and a gentleman
representing the council abruptly demanded that I take down the
structure (greenhouse).
Whilst being spoken to in a disgusting manner I agreed to take it down when my friend returned later that day.
At
first we thought we would see if we could get away with taking the
tent/cover and keep the structure but this was clearly not suffice and
yet again this morning they have returned with force threatening to take
further action involving police as we are apparently breaching a law.
I'm
not too happy with this but there is nothing we can do at this moment
at time they have won but we were sure prepared to put up a fight.
9:57 am
Noah here - first report of the day!
The council have once again come down, they have spoken to the manager of the Apple store.
We have to take down the fort!
9:51 am
Not quite...!
9:45 am
Some pics that passersby took of us in our tents - before we had to take them down!
9:31 am
Getting evicted! Apple fans dismantling their tents outside the Regent Street flagship store
9:18 am
We've never ever had a problem before, but this time around it's because Apple forgot to apply for a temporary structure permit.
9:15 am
Just been told by the local council that we have to take down our fortress.
Sad times - it had better not rain! It was amazing while it lasted.
9:11 am
Just had a piping hot shower at Fitness First feel so fresh and a million dollars.
9:03 am
People always ask us what we do while we're waiting.
Obviously we have all our iDevices - so iPhones, iPads and Macs - so there's Internet access.
Then there's portable gaming devices like PSP which we play together.
We will watch movies, play games and so on. And of course read all the headline news - as this week it's always us!
But being in a group helps a lot. There is so much banter - I don't think I've laughed as hard ever than I did last night!
8:38 am
It's always the same seven to 10 people here in the front of the queue.
We all know each other from previous years and launches and we are now good friends.
We always turn up at similar times at launches.
We are all good friends and we do work in a team we keep an eye out for each other we all look after each other's belongings.
I suppose we are a little team!
8:37 am
Here's me (on the left) with Noah - when he's awake!
8:36 am
Our fortress - two portable greenhouses.
They keep us warm during the night, and are all kitted out inside.
Our home away from home!
8:34 am
We have a fortress with our green tent so we can sleep in peace without worrying about our stuff.
No one can get in without our say so.
All seven of us fell asleep last night, and for the first time we didn't even take shifts!
8:26 am
My name is Mike and I'm 23.
Noah Green and I met each other five years ago at the iPhone 4 launch, and we've pretty much queued every year since then.
Nowadays
it's more a tradition as there's the same group of us every year and we
use it as an excuse to meet up, have a good laugh and get an iPhone at
the end of it.
Noah is 18 and still asleep - bless him! Noah asleep
8:14 am
Good morning! I'm Mike Roberts.
Well that was the best nights sleep ever! Five and half hours! I feel like a new man haha.
